Guess who's retiring?. The next few seasons are going to be tough.

In other less-depressing news, I met with my professor this morning to talk about my paper because I thought I had no idea what I was doing. After I explained what I wanted to write about, he gave me a few suggestions but said that I'm basically on the right track. Awesome! Now I just need to write it.

The Packers just beat the Vikings 34-0. You guys, this day is awesome. I got some delicious coffee at the Riverwest Co-op, I bought some super firm cubed tofu which they apparently bought after the suggestion I made last month because my co-op is awesome like that, and then I got to drink my coffee while watching the Packers totally spank the Vikings. 34-0! Spanked!

About pretty much everything, except the thing where the Packers totally fucking gave up a win against the Bears, because fucking McCarthy decided that "establishing the running game" meant they had to run on every single fucking play, even after it was clear the Bears had picked up on this plan and started, you know, shutting down our nascent running game, and also the part where for the entire second half he was calling plays like he was protecting a lead when we were TIED AT 20-20 and also what the fuck James Jones?!? Okay, fine, you fumbled once, alright, you weren't really holding on to the ball, but sometimes that happens, you don't except the defense to try that hard to strip the ball (it's not like this is PROFESSIONAL FOOTBALL OR ANYTHING, why would they try so hard to strip the ball?), fine, but A SECOND TIME? ON THE VERY NEXT DRIVE? LOSING US ANOTHER NEAR-GUARANTEED SEVEN POINTS? Also, seriously guys, 12 penalties? What the fuck was up with that?

But aside from that, everything is peachy. And the Packers are still 4-1, so at least there's that.

The Packers beat the Vikings today, which means that the Pack are 4-0 and also that they beat the fucking Vikings, so, you know, awesome. Favre beat Dan Marino's all-time touchdown record in the first quarter. I teared up a little; my first memory of the Packers is being so angry that some dude I'd never heard of was replacing Don Majkowski. I totally loved Don Majkowski. Anyway, the game was awesome and the Packers are undefeated and clearly I was meant to move back to Wisconsin.

I think I'm finally getting over my cold. The coughing is only sporadic, which should help me at work tomorrow. Not the bookstore, other work. I signed a confidentiality agreement, and they keep telling us how every single thing that happens is covered by it, so I'll play it safe and just say that being able to talk without coughing is going to be advantageous. As for the bookstore, a.k.a. The Work That Isn't Really Work, I get to take pictures of books that we're selling on eBay. I'm getting paid to take pictures of books! I really wanted to go into the store today, but as this is my first day off in a week, I figured I'd regret it. Probably.

I bought a weekly bus pass for the first time since I moved here. I actually need it now that I leave the house. Granted, I've mostly been leaving the house for work lately, but now that I'm not coughing all the time and scaring people around me, I might see about getting some friends. Maybe go see a show. There are so many options, what with my bus pass and all.

Packers won, Packers won, hahahahahaha!

The Packers are 2-0, and they beat the Giants! I love New York, but I loathe New York sports teams.

(Also, a month after I broke down and started smoking again, I am getting a cold. Send echinacea; I have the Vitamin C covered.)

i hate thinking of titles

1. I made Tofu Tikka Masala tonight, and it was actually sort of good. Seriously, I sort of enjoyed eating tofu. Weird.

2. What is with this fucking numbered list thing? Oh, that's right, I can't pay attention to anything long enough to come up with a coherent transition between thoughts.

3. Dogma was better than I expected and surprisingly deep for a Kevin Smith movie.

4. Packing sucks. Which is weird, because the Packers are so awesome.

5. Haha I made a funny!

6. Not that I did that much packing today; mostly it was throwing things away in preparation for packing later.

7. Things are happening behind the scenes, and I can't really talk about it, but said things seem to be looking up, sort of kind of maybe.

8. Is it just me or is it getting really annoying that 90% of what I talk about here is how I can't talk about anything here? Perhaps I need to rethink this whole blog.

9. Time to watch Kill Bill II!!!

this week

1. I went out drinking twice; both times were lovely. I went to the Packers bar last night, and it was awesome (obviously).

2. Double or Nothing was pretty amazing. I hate to be all sincere about it, but I haven't been affected by a book like I have by it in awhile. It didn't make me all emotional or anything, but it made me think about what a novel is, what fiction is about, more than anything has in awhile. I guess I'm not supposed to call it experimental; but it pushes the boundaries of what a novel is supposed to be. It doesn't really have a plot, except it sort of does, and it's impossible to tell where the lines are between the author and narrator and protagonist. It is a weird strange awesome book.

3. Next on my reading list: Ficciones, The Plague, Slaughterhouse Five, finishing that other book about Prague that I started in MKE.

4. I'm watching Hearts and Minds, a documentary about the Vietnam War. If I do in fact focus on US History when I go back to grad school, it's going to be a depressing 2-3 years.

5. I'm currently avoiding several responsibilities. I need to deal with them this weekend, but I am (amazingly) not very anxious about it. I will finish things when I can finish them.

6. I went on a bike ride, in New York, on my bike that I fixed BY MYSELF. I am clearly mega-awesome.

The Packers beat the Vikings. The rest of the season may (and probably will) suck, but at least the Packers beat the Vikings. Plus, my awesome cousin TiVo'd it, so I get to watch it in two weeks!

I'm going home in two weeks. Have I mentioned that?

Last night, I learned that it is not a good idea to eat an entire bag of tortilla chips, even if they are healthier than ice cream and cookies. Also, The Office is still funny. Also, cheap lighters can ruin your whole night.

This weekend's football highlights, based on the games I actually watched:

1. The Jets' hilarious attempt at a last second comeback. I only watched the last two minutes or so of the game, but it was definitely the funniest part.



2. The Packers' win against the Eagles. Oh, wait, they lost. Maybe because they gave up sometime early in the third quarter? I swear, there was a point where I looked at the score and couldn't believe we were still ahead 9-7. Fucking Packers.

you can't be me i'm a rock star

So I had the awesomest post yesterday, but sadly it's awesomeness was so great that time itself stopped, by which I mean fucking Safari froze and refused to unfreeze itself, and after waiting forever (where forever=2 minutes, give or take a minute) I gave up and shut Safari, forever losing my awesome post. I think it was about the Packers winning and the crap Jay Z and/or N.E.R.D. song playing on someone's car stereo at 11:45pm last night. Because that's the best time to play "Rock Star" with added bonus Jay Z "rapping"--apparently he wasn't satisified with ruining that Punjabi MC song with his "rapping" and decided Pharrell was in for some Jay Z song-ruining. If in fact it was Jay Z and not some asshole who's decided to imitate Jay Z rather than some rapper with actual talent.

Or something. Rest assured, this was all way more awesome in the original post that has now disappeared.

The important thing to remember is that the Packers won and I drank a million beers and was drunk by 4:30pm yesterday, extending my classy streak by one more day.
