baby carrots

My apartment is freezing. We turned off the heat at the end of March, during the brief period where it seemed like spring might actually be starting, and regretted it almost immediately. I refuse to turn it back on, as it is spring and it will clearly get warmer any day now. It's 36 outside right now, though; please remind me why I moved back to Wisconsin.

just so you know

I have a deep and abiding hatred for anyone who reclines their seat on a crowded airplane or bus.

(I am back in Wisconsin, northern Wisconsin to be precise.)

commercialismier

There's this Allstate commercial, and it's all shots of freeways and people running on treadmills and sitting at a computer and eating dinner, except they're doing it in the middle of the freeway, and I couldn't tell you why, because I was too distracted by the small print at the bottom of the screen at the beginning of the commercial--"Do not attempt." Do not attempt to run on a treadmill in the middle of the freeway. Really? That's just... I can't tell if I'm angry or just sad for this country that things like that have to be pointed out.

Related: You're tired of me bitching about commercials, aren't you? Me too. I really need to stop watching internet TV.

commercialism

Hulu.com is awesome. Have you heard of it? They have a whole bunch of TV episodes and movies online, and it's run by Universal and News Corp., so it's legal. And they have a lot of shows, and it's pretty high-quality, and it's really fast. Totally awesome, and way less guilt-inducing than watching TV on, um, sites that aren't technically, you know, exactly completely legal. Not that I ever did that!

Anyway, Hulu.com is awesome, but here's the thing. They have to find more advertisers. I don't know, maybe it's hard, maybe people don't want to pay for internet ads, I don't know. I do know that I will never, ever watch Street Kings ever, and I'm not feeling too good about stop-loss either. I've been watching old episodes of Bones, and every single episode is sponsored by one of those two movies, most of them by Street Kings. If I have to hear that fucking Street Kings commercial one more time, I am going to fucking scream. It wasn't that bad the first few times, but the exact same commercial runs five times during every episode, and I've watched most of the first season over the past week (stop judging me) and oh my god it starts out "I am the American dream" and I just want to fucking stab someone every time I hear it. Commercials are annoying enough, but when you have to listen to the exact same commercial repeatedly, it induces irrational rage and not the irrational consumerism I'm assuming you intended.

This also applies to USANetwork.com and their fucking Bertolli commercials. Find another advertiser! Or be like ABC.com and advertise your own shows! Just stop playing the exact same commercial over and over again.

In related news: I need to stop watching so much Internet TV. Seriously. And new episodes are starting in a week or two, so it's not like I'm going to stop completely, but I need to stop wasting so much time at Hulu.com.

When I lived in New York, I used to say that it was pretty similar to Wisconsin, climate wise.

LIES.

It is so cold. And it's snowing. AGAIN.

At least the snow is pretty.

time flies

...when you're wasting your life.

It was raining when I woke up this morning, which derailed my only plan for the day, i.e. do laundry as soon as I woke up. It eventually stopped raining, sort of, so I walked to the laundromat (Soapie's, awesome name, almost as good as Miss Bubble's on Amsterdam back in Harlem) and did a load of laundry. I mostly washed my t-shirts and the one pair of pants I wear all the time now (um, I should really go shopping). I did my laundry in pink tights and a black skirt and my job-interview sweater, because I dress nicer and nicer as it gets closer and closer to laundry day. Because I am a scrub.

Oh, someone is cranky! I just cannot believe that it's 8 o'clock at night and the only things I've accomplished today are doing a load of laundry and reading about 40 pages of words about history. Also, I watched some News Radio and made stir-fry. And... that is it. UGH. I need to go write a novel or clean my room or something.

i hate the neighbors

I have class in a little less than eight hours. Who the fuck plays music that loud until 1 in the damn morning?

neighborhood happenings

Yesterday: I arrive home at approximately 1am, find the locks on both doors into the apartment building have been jammed with toilet paper. I manage to pry free the TP on the first door, give up on the second.

Tonight: I walk out of the subway around 12:20am (early night!), see the aftermath of a car crash. One car in the middle of the road, one car halfway through a chain-link fence, four cop cars and eleven or twelve cops standing around.

The two events are probably unrelated.

Also, when is the city going to put out rat poison? The rats are running free on the streets; I saw one run from the street into that little park at West 4th and Sixth Ave, holding part of a roll in its diseased little mouth. It was adorably gross and disgusting.

Speaking of disgusting, trimming your fingernails in public IS NOT OKAY. It is not okay on the subway, it is not okay on the street, it is not okay anywhere outside of your bathroom. When I am on the D train to work, I am already annoyed that I'm on the D train (makes at least one more stop than the A train) and that I'm on the way to work. Watching and listening to you cut your nails pushes me from "annoyed" to "violent," and I refuse to believe I'm the only one.
