Wow, why am I so bad at this? I used to have to stop myself from writing more than twice a day. Oh, that's right, that's when I had a Livejournal and no friends or life. Ugh, damn friends, getting in the way of my blogging.
Well, that's not really true, I haven't seen my friends in weeks, at least my non-UWM friends. Grad school is consuming my life! Weird. I think I would be less annoyed if I were being challenged; mostly though, everything is just so damn time-consuming.
I did make time to go to Craftacular though. More on that later; I don't have photos, but I do have many things to say about the experience. It was definitely positive overall, though mostly it was a learning experience more than it was a super profitable experience.
Oh, and also, Thanksgiving happened. My mom and I made a ridiculous amount of food, and there were like 20 or 30 people at my parents' house over the course of the day. It was so, so fun; I'm a big fan of our family and friends. I have two super-adorable... second cousins? What do you call your cousins' kids? Whatever, they are adorable, and they looooove me. I already made a quilt for Noah (photo on this blog somewhere, I'm too lazy to find it right now), and now I need to make one for Jase. Who knows my name! And asks for me! And is probably the smartest, best 2 year old EVER! Holy shit, I'm glad other people are having kids, because they are so much fun to hang out with for the day.
Okay, shit, I have a 15-20 page paper to finish today, so I should get moving. More later! Must save something for tomorrow, right?

i can hear people laughing
This whole "work" thing is exhausting! I am actually really into the project I was hired to work on, and very interested in making my boss and my department (and myself) look good to the rest of the organization, so I actually work very hard. No checking the internet, no staring off into space, no finding excuses to wander away and hide for half an hour--man, I really hated that last job I had in NY. Uh, yeah, anyway, work is fun and remunerative but exhausting!
Which is why I have not been "blogging," dear internet. Work is exhausting, and my friends (that's right, I have them) keep asking me to hang out with them. I went to the Dane County Farmers' Market with Kira's mom Lois, which was sweet. After we left the market, she drove past some tobacco fields and told me about how tobacco is grown! It was super interesting, for real. Who knew Wisconsin had tobacco farms? I spent Sunday afternoon canning jam with Stephanie and Erin, which was totally awesome. I just tried my first jar of homemade strawberry jam; it was good and very, very sweet. Probably getting the low-sugar pectin next time. Erin made jam with fruit from the raspberry bushes in her backyard, which is fucking amazing. We traded a jar, so I will have one jar of raspberry jam to enjoy.
My grandparents had a gigantic raspberry patch in their backyard, and my grandpa made jam every year. I always thought it was my grandma, but my mom corrected that assumption recently. Those damn raspberries reminded me of them and their house and playing in their backyard and hiding in the raspberry bushes and late summer Saturday nights with my family. I had a dream about my grandma that night; I was at my grandparents' house and trying to do something that was taking too long (people were waiting for me and getting impatient) and then suddenly my grandma and I were walking away from the house, and I think I said something about how people were waiting for us, and she told me not to worry, and then I asked her if she knew that she was dead, and she said yes, and I asked her what it was like, and she said that she was happy. Or something like that; the only thing that I remember clearly is how happy I was to see her again. And then I think I woke up or something. Ugh, and now I have made myself cry.

back
We got to Milwaukee about an hour ago. I slept nearly the entire way, and I'm still tired.
I wanted to post a few pictures of my grandma and grandpa from right around the time they got married, but my parents have dial-up, and it is so, so slow. My grandma sorted out all of her pictures at some point in the past few years, and I want to find a way to scan most if not all of them. Of course, they're up north and I'm in Milwaukee, so... I don't know.
Anyway, back in Milwaukee. School starts on Tuesday; I guess I'm ready. My parents are going to drive me around tomorrow so I can buy bookshelves and possibly also a filing cabinet. And possibly we will go to Costco! Exciting. Right now, I should go to sleep.

echoes
My grandma had a minor stroke yesterday.
I will be up north with my family until sometime next week.

plus/minus
On the one hand, Thanksgiving was great. I made awesome food--a tofurkey, cheesy jalapeƱo mashed potatoes, and baked macaroni and cheese (with penne pasta--the best yet). I went to Nathan's Grandma's house for lunch (I'm pretty sure his family loves me), and everyone came over to our house for dinner. It was amazing; the weekend was amazing. Except that we had Thanksgiving at our house because my grandparents don't have room to host anymore at their new apartment. And they didn't come to our house because Grandma broke her ribs a few weeks ago. And now she's in the hospital and will be through the weekend. And she's doing better--she's eating again and in better spirits generally--but I am scared.

back from the homeland
I feel like I've used that as a title before.
So very much happened while I was in Wisconsin; I don't even know where to start. I'm running on about two hours of sleep, and I don't get off work for another million hours, so I'll keep this short and erratic.
My sister got into a pretty bad car accident the night I got back. She's okay, thankfully, aside from a broken ankle and some painful gross awesome bruises (one of em looked like jesus for a day or so). We ended up spending a lot of time together and didn't fight once, which was cool albeit weird as the sisterly bonding was the result of a scary awful thing. Tracey is amazing, which I can say because she doesn't know this blog shit exists.
I saw a million awesome bands on New Year's Eve in Milwaukee and had a generally awesome time, aside from two hours sort of in the middle that were just really terrible. Entirely unrelated to the bands though. No details will be forthcoming as it's honestly not that interesting, I swear, but I probably maybe will get around to talking about how I can't write anything in here lately because everything that happens is something that seems inappropriate for public consumption. That may or may not make sense (two hours of sleep, and not even bed-sleep or couch-sleep, two hours of plane-sleep) but probably I'll write more about that later because it's related to my Awesome Totally Non-Cliched New Year's Eve Epiphany (2007).
Dear Astronaut! Guys, my cousin Jeb is an awesome human being and an awesome musician in this way that constantly freaks me out. In the best possible way! Jeb and Scott and Frank put on an amazing show, as did the rest of the bands that I loved and yet am too tired to remember all the names but definitely you should somehow check them out anyway.
Yeah, Milwaukee was really super awesome. I could see myself living there, I think.
TIRED TIRED TIRED COFFEE COFFEE COFFEE
What else? I took a bunch of pictures of Dear Astronaut, and Jeb posted them on the MySpace, and people complimented them and stuff, even people who didn't know me, and I did a little happy dance. Go look at their MySpace and check out the photos and see how very completely awesome I am. Also, you could check out my Flickr page, as I posted the entire set there. I'm in the process of weeding out the crap ones so you can only see the very best. They're in the "New Year's Eve in Milwaukee" set.
While I'm linking to things, my other cousin Jason is in the hilarious awesome band From New York City. I missed their first concert by one day (it would've been so perfect too, if I'd gotten home from new york city in time to see their show) which I will regret forever. Jason and his friends managed to create this completely spot-on satire (I'm like 51% sure that's the words that I mean to say) of douchebag New York hipsters, plus they can actually play their instruments good and stuff. Check them out!
I really love my family a lot.
Soon (Probably) : more about Christmas, more about Milwaukee, more about my Awesome Totally Non-Cliched New Year's Eve Epiphany (2007), more about everything and anything
