i agree with jesse ventura?

This is an amazing, AMAZING clip of Jesse Ventura on The View. Yeah, I know, I'm surprised too, but Jesse wipes the floor with Elisabeth Hasselbeck in a discussion of torture. He seriously just looks disgusted with her, but he makes some amazing points and having served in Vietnam and gone through waterboarding as part of SERE training, he knows what he's talking about. Alright, the more I write, the stranger I feel, but just watch it and be happy that someone pointed out how fucking ridiculous Hasselbeck and every other torture apologist is.

don't make any sudden movements

This was a weird day. Stressful and anxious but in a tolerable way. I felt like I wasn't getting enough done all day, but I wrote four or five pages of words for my final papers, and I also sewed for the first time in weeks. It went pretty okay-- frustrating and slow because I think maybe I've started to forget how to sew, but ultimately satisfying. I figured out how to appliqué that orange stripe on the front, and I'm cautiously optimistic that it'll be way easier to appliqué the orange stripe on the back. I don't know; I'm very excited by the way that I'm feeling right now. I'm annoyed and worried and antsy about all the stuff I have to do this week (and this month and this year--how very dramatic), but I am not anxious. Weird.

so this happened

It is very cold in Milwaukee right now. I walked to the co-op earlier to get some hot chocolate (and ended up getting non-dairy ice cream instead, because why not?). As it is very cold out, I was wearing a sweater and a long coat and a hat (one of those ones with ear flaps) and mittens. And then this happened:

marina: [walks down a dark street, car drives by slowly, window rolls down]
creepy guy: hey, baby, you be fine, you seeing anyone?
marina: yes?
creepy guy: oh, okay. sorry! [drives away]

I just... I was wearing all of my winter clothes, and it was dark, what was he basing his "i be fine" hypothesis on? Also, what the hell kind of creepy guy is he? He slows down (after dark in a not-great neighborhood) and verbally accosts a random girl, and then apologizes in a fairly sincere fashion and drives away when he finds out random girl has a boyfriend? I don't think he really "gets" it, and by "it," I mean "everything."

the world is going crazy

I don't even know how to explain how confused I was last night... I was sitting on the A train, minding my own business. Sometime after 59th street, I want to say between the 72nd and 86th street stops, a guy on the other end of the car took out a pipe or something and started smoking. And not cigarettes, which would have been weird enough but not unprecedented. No, this guy was smoking weed. On the A train! And it was only like midnight! I just... it was so confusing. The guy sitting across from me started cracking up, and I just sat there, reading The New Yorker, trying to figure out if it smelled like weed or possibly crack. I don't know what crack smells like or anything, but somehow it didn't smell like weed. Still, there's no way someone was actually smoking crack on the subway, right?

Then, on the way from the subway station to my apartment, I saw a rat again on the same trash pile as last night and decided I should avoid that side of the street.
