isn't it time you finished your lower level?

Three days until I turn 25; less than a day until my family gets here. We're going to see Dylan & Willie Nelson on Wednesday at Summerfest.

I was at my internship earlier today, walking to the back to get some more books to catalogue, thinking about how sore I was. Then I realized I've ridden my bicycle every day for 20 or 30 minutes or more, after months of no regular exercise at all. So, yeah. Hooray for bikes. I'll take a photo tomorrow; Kira said I need to post more photos.

This is the sky outside my apartment a few weeks ago. I haven't uploaded any photos for awhile; I haven't been taking many either. Need to make a new camera case.

So yes, I will be 25 soon. I have made some progress on my craft business thing, by which I mean making it a real, actual thing, but I need to really start taking it seriously. Eventually I will have to admit that I am basically an adult, and if I'm an adult, then I would like to be moving consciously towards a place where I'm supporting myself doing something that I love. Or really, supporting myself and paying off debt rather than incurring it. That would be okay too.

practice makes perfect

1. I really want to make this dress.

2. Why am I up so late? Damn.

3. I am determined to get back into the habit of writing here. So much to catch up on!

4. While cleaning my sewing room, I found two different quilt battings, which means I can now finish the quilt I made for my new nephew and the yellow and grey quilt.

5. Speaking of which, this is what it looks like, basically:

That is obviously a terrible photo, and it was taken when I was trying to decide on the final placement of things, but that is pretty much it. I finished it in one [long] day. Obviously a very simple patchwork pattern, but I was more interested in experimenting with colors/patterns/placement/etc. Because I am a fancy pants artist lady!

Okay. Time to sleep!

i get it!

Alright, so, I have been trying to sew clothes lately. "Trying" being the operative word. I've wanted to like, I sort of liked it at certain points, but mostly it was just stupid frustrating. But tonight, I get it. I'm about halfway done with Amy Butler's Barcelona Skirt--halfway because I haven't yet cut out the lining because I wasn't sure my alterations were going to work--and it fits and even kind of looks halfway decent and yeah, I get it! Sewing your own clothes is awesome! Because I bought 2 yards of black cotton twill in January, and I think I also bought the pattern then, and now, it is magically a skirt! A skirt that fits me! And that will have an awesome lining of thrifted rainbow stripe fabric! And I think that altogether it's going to cost me around $20? Or maybe like $35 if you count the pattern? But why would you, as I will make so many skirts that the patterns cost will be negligible!

the time for independence is now

1. I bought a bike!

2. And I rode it to work yesterday! Amazing!

3. I am, coincidentally, broke!

4. I'm going to make four (4) quilt tops this week. I wrote it; now I have to do it!

12 June 2009

Alright, so I have already failed at the "blog every day" thing, but I was very busy yesterday with working and drinking. (First one and then the other, obviously.) Today I finished, sort of, that shirt I was talking about. It's finished in the sense that it is now obviously a shirt that I could wear, in theory, but it is probably not something I would voluntarily wear outside the house. I did a lot of alteration experimentation, and I finally got to a point where I had to just give up, for now at least. But then I made another shirt! It is not completely done, as it's very hard to figure out strap placement when you are home alone, sans fitting assistant (Nathan!) or dress form (but not for long, I multitasked at the bar last night and made plans for a duct tap dress-form-making party. Pretty sure the hyphens are in the wrong places there!). What was I talking about? Oh, yes, I made two shirts this week! And two quilt tops! And I haven't had a cigarette all day today! (I smoked at least half a pack last night at the bar, but that's neither here nor there.) And I remembered to "blog" tonight! I am on a fucking roll!

[[there will be more photos from now on, i promise.]]

10 June 2009

Okay, seriously, I am going to post everyday from now on! Or at least 5 times a week. Or less. Maybe more.

Okay... alright. Today I got home and made dinner and then it was suddenly 6:50, and I looked at what was going to be on TV tonight, and then I was a little bit sad about the state of US TV, and then I turned off the TV. And hey, guess what? I actually got some real things accomplished. I cut out fabric for this shirt yesterday, and I sewed almost all of it tonight. It's going pretty well so far, though I have this sneaking suspicion that the final product is going to make me look pregnant. Which I'm not, but I am fat, so I may need to figure out how to modify it so I look, you know, less fat. But I think I can do it! So yeah, sewing clothes! Yeah!

That is probably enough for right now. Best to stop now before I start writing about something else that I'll decide is too personal to post. That's what usually happens, and the "too personal" thing is generally something really innocuous, but I am a crazy person lately and tend to assume any/everything is "too personal."

Alright! Done. How are you?

04 June 2009

sometimes i wonder if maybe i have add

Probably it's more that I drink too much coffee.

The last two weeks have been pretty great. Lots of relaxing and actually getting to hang out with people I've barely seen in months and also there was a lot of drinking. Which is fun, but really, all good things must come to an end.

It's weird to suddenly not have a job. Or mostly it's weird that I suddenly have actual time to myself. I've been trying really hard to get myself into a good routine; I've been only moderately successful so far. It's weird being home alone so much.

I forget what I was going to write about. Mostly I just felt like I should write something, as it has been ages since I've written anything.
